Диспрозий добавляют в магниты NdFeB, чтобы они не теряли намагниченность при нагреве до 150–200 °C: без него невозможны тяговые двигатели электромобилей и генераторы ветряков. Сплав терфенол-D (тербий-диспрозий-железо) обладает рекордной магнитострикцией и используется в сонарах и актуаторах. Диспрозий хорошо поглощает нейтроны и применяется в регулирующих стержнях реакторов.
