Alloys with special properties are needed by metallurgy, foundries, engineering, electronics and laboratories. This section covers materials for melting and alloying, bearing and solder alloys, precision alloys with set physical properties, refractory alloys based on tungsten, molybdenum and niobium, and the low-melting Rose’s and Wood’s metals and Devarda’s alloy.
For metallurgy and casting
Ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, ferrochrome and other ferroalloys are added to steel to deoxidise and alloy it, master alloys AlTi5B1, AlSr10 and CuP modify aluminium and copper alloys, and metallurgical silicon is used for silumins and chemistry.
For parts and instruments
Babbitts B83 and B16 are poured into bearing liners, tin-lead POS alloys serve as solders, Invar 36N and Kovar 29NK are used in instruments, nichrome and constantan in heating elements and resistors. We select the alloy by grade, size fraction or form of supply.
